“Moving forward, I am putting the b—- slap on guys who get caught using steroids from here on out. The fighters make a lot of money. I have all these nickel-and-dimers starting up leagues, and they don’t steal fighters from me. There are a lot of morons out there throwing money around, and nobody’s leaving me. When what you’re selling is human beings competing against each other, there are always going to be issues, man. Personal problems. Contract issues. There are always problems…. They’re not going to get paid. I take care of all of my guys. If you fight your ass off for me, you’ll get paid. But what I’m going to do is: I’m going to wait and see if they pass their drug tests. If they don’t, you’re going to get paid what’s in your contract and that’s it.”
– UFC President Dana White responds to questions from Jim Hockensmith at ESPN.com about the recent spate of positive drug tests among fighters, including UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk and Hermes Franca at UFC 73. He’s not pleased and makes some solid points as to the reasons he can’t control personal decisions, as well as what those who do test positive for illegal substances can expect in the future.

For the first time in the history of the IFL ... I care. That's right, they've won me over and now I will do my first EVER IFL preview for their upcoming PPV in East Rutheford, NJ. It's semi finals time, and that means that of the four teams that have survived, only two will move on. Here's a look:
WARNING: Nicknames of the coaches have been changed to protect from boredom.
"The Oriental Popeye" Ken Yusada's Tokyo Sabres vs. Renzo "Canibus" Gracie's New York Pitbulls155lbs: Savant Young (8-5) (2-1) vs. Erik Owings (3-2) (3-2)
This is what I love about the IFL: if this fight was on any other card, I wouldn't care. Seeing as it isn't, Young, one of the IFL's more popular stars, shouldn't have much trouble taking out the largly inexperienced Erik Owings.
1-0 Tokyo. 170lbs: Antonio McKee (20-3-2) (3-0) vs. Delson Heleno (11-2) (4-1)
Most people would point to the veteran McKee, but my lack of knowledge of he IFL makes me dangerous, so I expect Heleno to pull off another dazzling submission and even the score
1-1 Even.185lbs: Dave Phillips (7-3) (0-0) vs. Dan Miller (5-0) (0-0)
If you think the UFC grabs some no names from time to time, have a look at these guys. Phillips' last two opponents have amassed a sexy 0-16 record, while Miller's been fighting equally awesome Home Depot employees. Who ever sober will win. The weirdest part, this fight of fill-ins could be the decision maker of the night and send the other team home for the season. For the hell of it I got Miller.
1-2 New York205lbs: Vladmir Matyushenko (18-3) (3-0) vs. Jamal Patterson (3-1) (3-1)
Jamal Patterson has accomplished a lot, in a little amount of time. The IFL newcomer is also a new MMA professional as his 3-1 record in the IFL is his only official MMA experience. Unfortunately for Patterson, the man on the opposite side of the ring is former UFC heavyweight contender Vladmir "The Janitor" Matyushenko. I see a first round TKO.
2-2 Even.
265lbs: Wayne Cole (7-4) (0-1) vs. Brian Vetell (2-2) (1-2)
One of he more important fights f the night looks to be very close. Neither of these two men are going to be wearing gold anytime soon, so this might be as important as it gets for them. I predict a Wayne Cole TKO and a win for
Toyko 3-2.Note: This is an extremely close match up. The veteran presence (Young and Matysuhenko are near guaranteed Ws) of the Tokyo team should allow them to make their way into the finals, but in all fairness, this could go either way.
Pat "Crazy Eye" Militech's Iowa Silverbacks vs. Shawn Tompkins' Vancouver, err. Los Angles Anacondas 155lbs: Bart Palaszewski (27-8) (7-1) vs. Adam DiSabato (3-1) (0-0)
What was supposed to be the rematch of the year (Palaszewski vs. Chris Horodecki) will end up as a one sided match up for the IFL's defending champs. Palaszewski should be able to finish this fight via ground and pound within the first two rounds.
IOWA 1-0.170lbs: Rory Marham (11-2) (5-1) vs. Chris Clements (4-1) (0-0)
It looks like injuries might have stifled the Anacondas' chances. Chris Clements, barring a miracle or future MMA folklore, has little to no chance of beating Rory Markam. Never say never, but I got Markham by TKO in 2.
IOWA 2-0.185lbs: Gerald Harris (4-1) (0-1) vs. Benji Radach (15-3) (3-0)
Finally, the Los Angles should catch a break as Radach steps in the ring favored to win, and I have to go with him in this one. Harris is no slouch, by I see a Radach TKO.
IOWA 2-1205lbs: Mike Ciesnolevicz (12-2) (4-2) vs. Alex Schoenauer (12-7) (4-3)
Finally, a match that was originally supposed to happen, does. These two fighters met earlier in the season with Ciesnolevicz taking the victory by split decision, and not much has changed since. To say this is a close fight, and an important one, would be an understatement. With no clear winner, I've consulted my minutes of IFL watching experience to pick Ciesnolevicz by unanimous.
IOWA 3-1.265lbs: Ben Rothwell (22-5) (7-0) vs. Krzysztof Soszyniski (12-7-1) (3-3)
So they meet again. This should, in theory, be a match that Rothwell should dominate. While I won't pick against the undefeated giant, I do think he'll struggle to pull this one out, winning by unanimous.
IOWA 4-1.NOTES: This match really comes down to one thing: heath; the Silverbacks are, and the Anaconda's aren't. While it is not unforeseeable that the Tompkin's team could win one more fight, an overall win is unlikely.
---Seriously, have you seen Yusada's arms? Popeye is a drastic understatement. This guys arms dwarf a Buick. He better hope the IFL doesn't start drug testing their coaches 'cause he's got more steroids in him than Jose Canseco's last book. (Thank you, Thank you, I'll be here all night. Be sure and tip your waitresses.)

A source close to EliteXC informed me today that plans are in the works to make a match between K.J. Noons and Nick Diaz for September 15 in Hawaii. There is some internal concern about reports stating Noons may have suffered a hand injury vs. Edson Berto last Friday night and the match likely won’t become official until they know for sure that he’s 100 percent healthy.
In regard to an earlier report about a match in San Francisco between Frank Trigg and Jake Shields in October, it looks like Shannon Ritch may have spoke too soon. Apparently, Shields has signed a bout agreement and Trigg has not, according to MMAWeekly.com.
Additionally, there are reports circulating that the match was offered at a catch weight of 175 lbs. and Trigg is maintaining that he has no desire to fight below 185 lbs.

Leonard Garcia (10-2) and Cole Miller (12-2) will tangle in a 155-pound preliminary bout on the UFC Fight Night 11 under card, according to a recent press release from SpikeTV.
Both fighters are coming off first-round wins at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5 Finale in June last month. Garcia submitted Allen Berube via rear naked choke and Miller finished Andy Wang with some strikes that were set up with a glancing head kick.
Miller made it to the semifinals of TUF 5, but eventually succumbed to Joe Lauzon after being rattled with an illegal punch to the back of his head. Garcia is perhaps best known for being on the losing side of a three-round war with Roger Huerta at UFC 69.
This match up rounds out the Spike television special, which is set to air on September 19 at 8 p.m. ET and lead into the debut episode of TUF 6.
Here’s a look at the current UFC Fight Night 11 fight card:
Main Event:
Din Thomas (20-6) vs. Spencer Fisher (20-3)
Main card (televised):
170 lbs.: Mike Swick (10-2) vs. Jonathan Goulet (19-8)
185 lbs.: Chris Leben (16-4) vs. Terry Martin (16-2)
155 lbs.: Nate Diaz (6-2) vs. Junior Assuncao (5-2)
Under card (May not be broadcast):
170 lbs.: Thiago Alves (11-3) vs. Kuniyoshi Hironaka (11-3)
185 lbs.: Nate Quarry (8-2) vs. Pete Sell (7-3)
155 lbs.: Leonard Garcia (10-2) vs. Cole Miller (12-2)
170 lbs.: Luke Cummo (5-4) vs. Edilberto “Crocota” de Oliveira (8-1-1)
155 lbs.: Gray Maynard (2-0) vs. Joe Veres (4-1)
Not bad. Not bad at all.

Nate Quarry (8-2) will return to the Octagon for the first time in almost two years to rematch Pete Sell (7-3) in a middleweight clash at UFC Fight Night 11 on September 19, according to a recent press release from SpikeTV.
The two first met inside that Octagon at UFC Fight Night in August 2005. Quarry won via technical knockout in round one via strikes, but many feel the fight was stopped prematurely.
After his devastating first round knockout loss to then-champion Rich Franklin at UFC 56: “Full Force” in November 2005 during his next fight, “The Rock” seemingly disappeared from competition. It was spinal fusion surgery, however, which has kept him on the sidelines for so long — not the crushing defeat to “Ace.”
The former Team Quest member and contestant on season one of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) will have his work cut out for him in his return against “Drago” at The Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Sell is heavy-handed and studies Brazilian jiu-jitsu under UFC Welterweight Champion, Matt Serra. He has three losses in four tries with the UFC (Phil Baroni is the lone win) and is no doubt hungry to get on the winning track and avenge what he feels was a bogus stoppage in his first encounter with Quarry.

The slow news day got us thinking about an old flame …
Fortunately, Fight! Magazine features a spread of former UFC Octagon Girl Amber Nichole Miller in its debut edition this month that cures our ills.
The bi-monthly (issued every two months) publication also covers some other interesting mixed martial arts topics such as UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra “Living in the moment,” Roger Huerta and “The Fight of His Life, as well the argument for “Who Can Beat Fedor?”
There’s lots more, of course, but none of which looks damn near as good as Amber.
She’s now a spokesmodel for Xyience and is currently tagging along with Kenny Florian and a contingent of UFC fighters visiting U.S. troops overseas.
If this isn’t a morale-booster, then I don’t know what is:

Spike TV has issued a press release officially announcing that the next Ultimate Fight Night is set to take place Wednesday, September 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
The release covers a lot of matchups we’ve already reported on, however, it’s been announced that Nate Quarry will be making his return against Pete Sell and Cole Miller will also be fighting on the preliminary portion of the card, against Leonard Garcia (nice matchup!).
Here’s the official release:
New York, NY, July 31, 2007 – For The Ultimate Fighter® alumni Din Thomas (Season 4), Nate Diaz (Season 5 champ) Chris Leben (Season 1) and Mike Swick (Season 1), the Ultimate® Fight Night™ on Spike TV Wednesday, September 19 at 9:00pm ET/PT will provide a golden opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a nationally televised audience. Each fighter is facing a tough test with the winners moving up the UFC® ranks and another step closer to a title shot. The two-hour live fight card will take place live from The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV.
Din Thomas (23-7) may have gained national recognition on Season 4 of The Ultimate Fighter last year, but the 30 year-old fighter was already well-known to mixed martial arts fans with a resume including an impressive win over current welterweight champ Matt Serra at UFC 41 in 2003. Now, the American Top Team product out of Port St. Lucie, Fl. looks to ascend the lightweight ranks against Spencer “The King” Fisher (21-3). The 31 year-old Team Miletich fighter from Bettendorf, Iowa earned national acclaim when he won a hard-fought decision over Canadian Sam Stout on Spike TV in June. With three wins in his last four UFC fights, “The King” is inching closer for a shot at the UFC lightweight throne.
A bold personality from Season 1 of The Ultimate Fighter, Chris “The Crippler” Leben (16-4), was a rising star in the UFC with five straight victories until his career was sidetracked by a devastating stoppage at the hands of current middleweight king, Anderson Silva, last June. Leben, fighting out of Gresham, Ore., has lost two of his last three bouts, and is desperate for a win against Chicago’s Terry Martin (18-2). The 26-year-old Martin, working toward a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, is on a two-fight winning streak in the UFC including a first round TKO over Ivan Salaverry at UFC 71 in May.
The Ultimate Fighter 5 champ Nate Diaz (6-2) gets his first big opportunity as a UFC fighter against the tough Atlanta-based Junior Assuncao (6-2). Diaz was awarded a six-figure multi-fight deal with the UFC when he defeated Manny Gamburyan in the second round of their nationally-televised bout in June. Diaz will look to use his impressive array of submission skills against the hard-charging Assuncao.
Mike Swick (10-2) was on the fast track to a UFC title shot with a five-fight winning streak since appearing on The Ultimate Fighter 1 with wins over vets David Loiseau and Joe Riggs. However, the talented 28-year-old fighting out of San Jose, Calif. lost a decision in a three-round war to Yushin Okami at UFC 69 in April. Now he is dropping down to welterweight to fight Canadian Jonathan “The Road Warrior” Goulet (19-8), who trains with UFC star Georges St-Pierre, and is making his fifth appearance on a Spike TV fight card.
The undercard will also feature prominent The Ultimate Fighter alumni as Gray Maynard (Season 5) takes on Joe Veres, Cole Miller (Season 5) battles Leonard Garcia, and Pete “Drago” Sell (Season 4) takes on Nate Quarry (Season 4).
