Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is the chief instructor at the Southside Jiu-jitsu Academy. Although a talented fighter, he refuses to compete in professional bouts: “Competition weakens the fighter.” Instead he trains dedicated students in the art of self-defense: bodyguards, cops, soldiers. At his brother-in-law’s club one evening, Mike saves a famous action star (Tim Allen) from a severe beating. His defense of Frank leads to a job in the film industry, but other events conspire to force Mike to participate in a prize fight. An American samurai film set the world of mixed martial arts, David Mamet’s “Redbelt” is a story about the limits of a single man’s integrity.

Assistant coaches for the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 were recently revealed and former UFC middleweight hopeful Robbie Lawler is among those to lend his services.
Now the current ICON Middleweight Champion after beating the snot out of Frank Trigg, “Ruthless” — a product of the Miletich camp — will assist former welterweight champion and TUF 6 head coach, Matt Hughes.
Lawler is joined by Matt Pena and Marc Fiore.
On the Long Island side of the fence, the opposing coach for TUF 6 and the current 170-pound titleholder, Matt Serra, will be supported by TUF 4 castmate, student and UFC fighter Pete “Drago” Sell, as well as boxing coach Ray Longo.
Serra, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt under Renzo Gracie, credits Longo for fine-tuning the standup skills that led to the unlikely destruction of Georges St. Pierre at UFC 69 in April of this year.
TUF 6 debuts on a new day this season (Wednesday) and features 16 up-and-coming welterweight prospects. To catch the first episode tune-in to the Spike television network on September 19 at 11:00 p.m. ET.
UFC Fight Night 11 will be broadcast beforehand, which is the reason for the late start. For the rest of the season, TUF 6 will air each Wednesday at 10 p.m. until its conclusion.
The TUF 6 Finale is scheduled for December 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, Serra and Hughes are set to battle little more than two weeks later at the final pay-per-view (PPV) show of 2007 on New Year’s Eve weekend.
For more information about the coaches and the upcoming season check out this press release.

Ryoto Machida (10-0) will take on Kazuhiro Nakamura (11-6) in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 76: “Knockout” on September 22, according to UFC.com.
Up until two weeks ago, Machida was widely believed to be the opponent for UFC newcomer Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. That fight never panned out, and now Machida is up against another talented fighter set to make his Octagon debut.
Let’s stick with Tom Gerbasi’s description of Nakamura on this one:
“… Nakamura will be making his UFC debut after fighting his entire career for the PRIDE organization. Owner of wins over Murilo Bustamante, Kevin Randleman, and Igor Vovchanchyn, this light heavyweight Judo standout has also locked horns with Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva, Josh Barnett, and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, making him one of the most battle-tested veterans at the elite level of the game.”
Couldn’t have said it any better. And don’t let the record fool you for those unfamiliar with Kaz — he’s one tough customer.
Machida is a two-fight UFC veteran with unanimous decision wins over Sam Hoger (UFC 67) and David Heath (UFC 70). Prior to becoming a Zuffa employee, Machida toppled UFC notables such as Rich Franklin, BJ Penn and Stephan Bonnar.
The headline bout for UFC 76 is a 205-pound contest between former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and Keith Jardine. Rua will throwdown with fan favorite Forrest Griffin, and Jon Fitch will look to dish out another signature welterweight beatdown of Diego Sanchez.
Not too mention Thiago Tavares and Tyson Griffin will battle in a sick lightweight showdown.
I think I’m excited.

Yeah I saw the Tapout show on the Vs. television network a few weeks ago, and this prick Matt Major was thinking he’s the next great middleweight or LHW whatever he his, he’s like 6′2″ and a muscular 185lbs I think, but a pussy.
The Tapout show followed him as he prepared to fight some overweight tomato can with a MMA record of 0-2. The tomato can took Matt Major the distance and Major won a judges decision. After Major failed to finish off the 0-2 tomato can fighter, he went backstage and was still hyped up and excited about his victory over the fat 0-2 guy. Backstage, a small fighter that looked to be about 5′2″ tall, maybe 130lbs, tried to give Matt Major some constructive criticism, and Matt Major challenged the little kid to a fight, and even threatened to find him outside and kick his ass.
My first thought was, wow, Matt Major is a pussy. A major pussy. Dude barely finished the fight with a fat 0-2 opponent, and now he’s threatening a lightweight to kick his ass in the parking lot? Matt Major is a pussy.
Anyway, Matt Major has since come on some MMA message boards and is trying to clean up his image by making excuses saying that the show was edited, etc… well, I saw the show, there was no editing when you were bowing up on the little kid. You just showed your pussy side. I do understand though, your excuse is having the brain of a 12 year old.
So instead of me getting banned from other MMA message boards, I figured I’ll just post my opinion of Matt “Major Pussy” Major here. Oh and in case you’re wondering, Matt Major fought again recently on 7/24/2007. This time he TKO’d a 1-4 opponent.
I’ll be impressed when he wins a fight against a decent opponent.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com has learned that former four-time NCAA All-American amateur wrestler Johny Hendricks will likely make his MMA debut in late-September on a MMA card to be held in Oklahoma.
Hendricks was an NCAA Division I champion at 165 pounds in 2005 and 2006 while competing for Oklahoma State.
He is a member of Team Takedown, which is a fight team started with the intent of helping standout wrestlers from the collegiate ranks convert to MMA.
Other members of Team Takedown include fellow OSU alums Jake Rosholt and Shane Roller along with former Penn State wrestler Eric Bradley.
Hendricks, Rosholt, and Bradley all train with Randy Couture at Xtreme Couture in Vegas while Roller is currently training with Guy Mezger at the Lions Den locations in Dallas.
Both Rosholt and Bradley made their debuts on July 21 at a Masters of the Cage event in Oklahoma. Rosholt submitted Dusty Miller at 3:40 of the first round while Bradley tapped Troy Allison at 2:41 of the first.
Bradley is also signed to EliteXC and will be fighting on a future card.

UFC 74: “Respect” is about three weeks out on Saturday, August 25, at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The pay-per-view (PPV) portion of the card will begin at 10 p.m.
We want to remind our readers that, as usual, we will provide up-to-the-minute quick updates for the entire show, beginning with the preliminaries at around 8 p.m. ET. In addition, expect live blow-by-blow, round-by-round blogging during the main card action from UFCmania reader DrubySunshine.
It’s going to be an action-packed card that has some nice and meaningful match ups.
In the main event, UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture will make the first title defense during his latest title reign against Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga. It’s a tough task for “The Natural,” which is underscored by the fact that most sportsbooks have him pegged as the underdog.
While most champions might be insulted with that assessment, Couture will more than likely embrace it — he thrives in the underdog role. (Make a bet now before those odds dwindle if you like Couture in this one!)
Here’s how the rest of the night will look:
Main card (televised)
Roger Huerta (18-1-1) vs. Alberto Crane (8-0)
Georges St. Pierre (13-2) vs. Josh Koscheck (9-1)
Joe Stevenson (27-7) vs. Kurt Pellegrino (10-2)
Kendall Grove (8-3) vs. Patrick Cote (10-4)
Under card (may not be broadcast)
Thales Leites (11-1) vs. Ryan Jensen (11-1)
Renato “Babalu” Sobral (27-7) vs. David Heath (7-1)
Frank Mir (9-3) vs. Antoni Hardonk (5-2)
Marcus Aurelio (14-4) vs. Clay Guida (21-8)
Again, some pretty sweet fights are lined up — and these can’t come soon enough. By the time this event rolls around it will be more than one month since the last (UFC 73 on July 7).
Definitely check it out if you can, but if you can’t, remember that we’ve got you covered. And even if you do order the fights, dedicated UFCmania readers are always following along before, during and after the telecast, providing some great discussion.
Don’t forget that we will also be the spot for the latest news, recaps and post-fight analysis following UFC 74.

Semi Love ... TONIGHT!
For the first time in the history of UFC Fight Blog, I'll actually be covering the IFL. Shocking, I know. That's not to say that I'm going as far as to purchase a PPV, but I am interested enough to make picks and follow the action via Sherdog or MMAweekly's play-by-play. So, with all the fighters making weight, it's time to sit back and watch my picks fall like Beyonce. I felt like a blind man picking for a horse race when I was picking the fights, but what the hell, ALL IN!
(By the way, maybe Kurt Otto's trying to be "too cool for the room," but the semi finals are actually tonight ... Thursday.)
Cage Raging
The official line up for Cage Rage 23 has been announced via MMAweekly (
here) and it appears as if the Brits go by the motto, "the more titles, the better." In one for the FOUR title fights Vitor Belfort will be taking on James "The Messenger" Zikic for the Cage Rage World light heavyweight title. Not only does Cage Rage like having one hundred titles, but they also like using at least four words to describe each. Either way it'll be free on proelite.com and amusing if nothing else.
Free Fighting
This weekend also boasts the best reason to watch cable, MMA. Specifically, the WEC makes its return to VERSUS in PPV fashion. With a line up that features two title fights, this is a contest that is not to be missed. Oh, and did I mention, IT'S FREE!
HBO...no
I can't imagine that a UFC-HBO deal is still on the table. Over one year ago, MMAweekly announced that an HBO deal was on the horizon, and yet nothing. Think of all the things that have happened in a year:
Rich Franklin, Chuck Liddell, Tim Sylvia and Matt Hughes were all champions.
Arlovski and Sylvia were preparing for their rematch.
Randy Couture was a commentator.
Elite XC hadn't had their first show yet.
Pride claimed allowed Wanderlie Silva to attend a UFC event and agreed to let him fight, then announced that they would "take over the UFC." That went well.
Sean Sherk was a welterweight because the lightweight title didn't exist.
MMA forums were abuzz with Tito-Dana talk.
UFC Fight Blog didn't EXIST!!!! (Word.)
---Check me out tomorrow, I'll be doing a preview/picks tomorrow for Sunday's WEC event.

I first noticed the below link this morning on FightOpinion.com:
dBusinessNews.com
To all the IFL haters out there predicting the demise of the league, it looks like you’ll be wrong for at least another year. The IFL has raised another $12.7 million in financing, which should be enough to get them through the 2008 season.
This is good news for MMA. IFL commissioner and co-owner Kurt Otto has said that MMA needs the IFL to succeed and I agree. The more MMA, the better. The more options that the fans and fighters have, the better. And as a writer/blogger, the more I have to write about, the better.
The $12.7 million probably will only be enough for 2008 but the league is building momentum and if the new TV format continues to be strong, things could break big for them in 2009 and they might be able to start bringing in some strong revenue through TV, sponsorships, and live gates.
Additionally, a year from now the franchises might actually be worth a decent amount of money to private investors with cash to burn that are looking to get involved with MMA. If I was a Mark Cuban-type who made my money elsewhere and was looking to get involved with sports ownership as a hobby, I might be interested in an IFL team.
