Quinton “Rampage” Jackson Defeats Dan Henderson, Retains UFC Light Heavyweight Belt

The UFC and Pride Light Heavyweight Belts are now unified, both belong to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson after he defeated Dan Henderson by unanimous decision after a 5 round battle at UFC 75 that saw both land some good punches and score a few takedowns, but ultimately Rampage got the best of Dan Henderson.

Michael Bisping vs. Matt Hamill: The JUDGES ARE A COMPLETE DISGRACE

What a fraudulent decision. Matt Hamill clearly won this fight, and the asshole idiot judges gave it to Michael Bisping? Who the hell were these judges? What are their credentials? What an absolute mess. Matt Hamill scored multiple, multiple takedowns, outboxed Bisping on his feet, beat him up with dirty boxing, Michael Bisping did nothing but attempt a few unsuccessful submissions. The UFC and Dana White should be ashamed of the outcome.

Quick thoughts on Cro Cop…

You know, I guess nobody lives in fear of that left kick anymore so guys are willing to come right at him and fight him like anyone else.

Cro Cop got beat my a bigger, stronger, and faster fighter who brought the fight to him the entire time. The crazy thing is, Cro Cop didn’t look that bad. He came into the fight in good shape and really stepped up his training. You could tell though that he gave into frustration. He’s not used to people fighting him like that.

So now you’ve had Gonzaga and Kongo go right at him. It looks like the Cro Cop myth has been broken. He’s getting paid a ton of money and has yet to be involved in a big money matchup for the UFC and he’s not in a position to be involved in one for his next match.

They have two options. Try and put him in there with someone like Frank Mir or Heath Herring and hope he gets back on track, but Cheick Kongo was supposed to be a layup for him too and we just saw how that worked.

The other option is to force him to move to light heavyweight. If he dieted down to 215 and maybe cut down on the leg squats and lost some muscle tone in his thighs, he could probably sweat down to 205 lbs. I know he’s said he doesn’t want to do it but Kongo just towered over him. There isn’t much they can do as far as throwing heavyweights at him that are tailor made for him.

Mirko CroCop Loses To Cheick Kongo, Now 1-2 In The UFC.

Ha, who would’ve thought. Cheick Kongo by total domination and judges decision. When Fedor comes to the UFC, he’s going to lose also.

Listen to the Sept. 8 edition of Inside the Cage Radio!

Matt Cava doesn’t mess around because The Sept. 8 edition of Inside the Cage Radio is now available!

You asked for more guests and Inside the Cage has delivered! Joining Matt Cava and I this week were EliteXC play-by-play announcer and Fight Network Radio host Mauro Ranallo and UFC lightweight contender Frankie Edgar.

Both segments were great. Mauro was especially in rare form today as we discussed a number of topics including his thoughts on Art of War III last week (and some interesting comments on Jeremy Horn); next week’s EliteXC card on Showtime (he addresses the critical comments that Matt and I have made about Gina Carano in recent weeks); how he really feels about Charles Bennett (and drops a bombshell about an urban legend pertaining to Bennett and Chute Boxe); announcers who influenced his style and much more!

Frankie then came on and addressed all the rumors about who his opponent will be at UFC 78; where he’s been training recently; whether or not he’s a full-time fighter; how he feels about getting top competition each fight while Roger Huerta perhaps hasn’t been; and more.

Frankie Edgar confirms UFC 78 match vs. Spencer Fisher

UFC lightweight contender Frankie Edgar joined Matt Cava of UFCTakedown.com and myself as a special guest on Inside the Cage Radio that was taped earlier this afternoon.

Edgar addressed a number of topics, including a rumored matchup between he and Spencer Fisher for UFC 78 on November 17 in Newark, New Jersey. Edgar confirmed the fight for both Matt and I.

Edgar vs. Fisher is going to be a hell of a match. He didn’t say whether it would be televise or not, but I’d be shocked if it wasn’t. Edgar will be fighting in front of hometown fans on the show and Fisher is an exciting fighter. To make that match and not televise it would be a crime.

The crowd should especially be into it. Edgar will have a lot of friends and family in the building but I am anticipating that Fisher will get a strong reaction as well. There are MFS affiliates in both Philadelphia and Atlantic City and there’s definitely a degree of loyalty when it comes to MFS and all of its affiliate schools.

EliteXC play-by-play announcer Mauro Ranallo was also on the show in what was an awesome segment. I think everyone is really going to enjoy it. Expect the show to be available sometime tomorrow. Check back here for an update or just e-mail me at SCaplan8@comcast.net  and request to join the 5 Oz. mailing list.

Trigg’s broadcast partner addresses Shields’ comments

Frank Trigg co-hosts an Internet radio show every weekday at TaggRadio.com and one of his broadcast partners on the show, Gorgeous George, posted on 5 Oz. earlier in response to the story I did on the EliteXC conference call earlier this week. George wanted to clarify some of the comments Shields made in reference to a matchup between he and Trigg falling through for a card to be held in October in San Francisco.

I want to be fair to all sides and let everyone have their side of the story. I don’t want to bury George’s comments in the comment section of the original article so I thought I’d post his reaction to what I had reported earlier.

First, here’s what I wrote in regard to Shields:

- I asked Shields about his feud with Frank Trigg. He said that the match had been set for October in San Francisco and that both verbally agreed. When it came time to return contracts, Trigg never signed his and then wouldn’t answer his phone. Shields said he’s still open to the match but isn’t sure it’s worth pursuing right now.

- Someone asked a followup about the difference in weight class between Shields and Trigg. Shields said he’d be willing to fight at 185 if the offer is right. I am pretty sure he said the offer he had this time around wasn’t enough for him to fight Trigg at middleweight.

Here is what George had to say:

hey sam,

always look forward to your articles here or on junkie. one comment i wanted to make about the shields-trigg match in san fran. both jake and frank were on the gracie fighting champ card in miami that subsequently was cancelled. frank got hosed on that deal and decided he didn’t want to accept offers from smaller orgs without some sort of “retainer” or purse up front. the people in san fran were supposed to fly to la and take care of that with frank’s manager ricco and it never happened. therefore, trigg decided not to put himself in the same position where he could get burned. also, the contract said 175 when he clearly has stated he intends to stay at 185 for now. at the same time, jake has stated he would move up to 185 so that should never be an issue.

I think EliteXC should step up and make this match happen at 185 lbs. Shields already has said he’d be willing to do it if the offer was right.
