Rampage trainer: ‘Our plan is to get vengeance’ against Wanderlei Silva and Shogun Rua

Quoteworthy:

“I’ve always said that our plan is to get vengeance, you know? Our plan is to get everyone that beat us and our plan is to get Wanderlei Silva or Shogun next. That’s just on my desire list, but I don’t know if those kids are ready or if they even want to fight Rampage so we’ll have to see. We’ll make a choice collectively with the matchmaker Joe and the promoter Dana and see what the choice is.”

Juanito Ibarra — the trainer for UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson — wants to go after former Pride FC stars Wanderlei Silva and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Both Brazilian fighters have crushed Rampage when all three competed in Japan. In fact, Silva has done it twice. For that to happen anytime soon, however, Silva would have to get passed Chuck Liddell at UFC 79: “Nemesis” on December 29. Shogun, on the other hand, would have to put together a few more wins after his upset loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 76: “Knockout” in September.

UFC Quick Quotes: Roger Huerta vs. Clay Guida on TUF 6 Finale fight

clay guida vs roger huerta tuf 6 finale

“What I’m going to do with Clay Guida will be no different than my other fights…. Everything he has I can do way better.

– Roger Huerta on Clay Guida main event fight at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 Finale on December 8 via FOXSports.com.

“I believe I will be able to take him down but I will stand and throw until he makes a mistake. My takedowns come off of punches. Roger has a really wide stance and keeps his left leg forward quite a bit which leads into my takedowns … once I start wearing him down I’ll hold him there as long as I want. I’ve held better fighters down I believe. He’s an athlete and he and I scramble a lot so it’s also a timing matter…. In the later rounds, when he’s looking for a way out I’m going to give him a way out.”

– Clay Guida on Roger Huerta main event fight at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 Finale on December 8 via FOXSports.com.

Report: MMA Referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy set to retire

Big John McCarthy MMA
Perhaps the most recognized and respected referee in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA), “Big” John McCarthy, will announce his retirement today, according to Yahoo!Sports.com.

Earlier this week The Fight Network distributed an advisory that “big” news would be announced tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. ET regarding the future of “Big” John and his partnership with North America’s only all-combat sports channel.

It appears that his role as an analyst for The Fight Network is set to increase and his days as an official will come to and end after The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 Finale this weekend on December 8.

McCarthy has been inside the Octagon for some of the most high-profile events in the history of the UFC. In fact, he’s officiated more than 500 MMA bouts and has worked every UFC card since UFC 2 in 1994 sans UFC 78: “Validation” last month in Newark, N.J.

McCarthy — who has been a police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department since 1985 — is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt who also operates his own gym in Valencia, Calif., called Big John McCarthy’s Ultimate Training Academy.

We’ll update this post tomorrow with more details after the conference call. For more background on McCarthy check out his official Web site right here.

(Thanks to MMAmania.com reader “Lucas” for the assist.)
