“I think BJ Penn is a punk. Who the hell is he? He’s won one fight in a couple of years now and it’s just whatever man. He wants to make all of these rules and regulations, but who the hell is he? I’m the champ in my eyes so I don’t care if he fights me or not, there’s a whole bunch of guys that could fight me right now. It’s his loss, not mine. He needs me more than I need him.”
– Sean Sherk — who was just stripped of his lightweight title — shares his feelings on BJ Penn via FightHype.com. Penn will now challenge Joe Stevenson for the vacant 155-pound belt at UFC 80: “Rapid Fire.” The winner of the championship match up is supposed to fight Sherk next. Penn has stated that he would only fight Sherk if he was “cleared of the steroid charge.”

Quoteworthy:
“I want to rip [Tito Ortiz’] big head off. The last time I had a back problem, and he just laid on top of me with a broken nose bleeding all over me and I tired in the last round…. I’m willing to fight him winner take all, the loser gets nothing. He’s a millionaire, he doesn’t need money — he has to have pride.”
Former UFC light heavyweight fighter Vitor Belfort — displeased with the treatment he received from the Cage Rage promotion — will be in Las Vegas, Nevada, tomorrow to meet with UFC matchmaker Joe Silva about a possible return to the Octagon. “The Phenom” sports wins over notables such as Randy Couture and Wanderlei Silva, among others. He has been victorious in his last two appearances.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) recently issued the medical suspensions from UFCs The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 Finale this past weekend.
Six of the nine bouts ended in the first round, meaning that the fighters minimized their chances of sustaining serious injuries.
Not surprisingly, Jon Koppenhaver and Jared Rollins were not so lucky — the two welterweights went to war in a blood-soaked back-and-forth battle.
Surprisingly, Roger Huerta and Clay Guida were absent from the report even though the two lightweights put on an epic display in the main event of the evening.
Here’s the skinny:
Tommy Speer — He is suspended until January 1, 2008, with a laceration below his left eye. No contact until December 30, 2007.
Jon Koppenhaver – He is suspended until January 23, 2008, with a scalp laceration thanks to those vicious Rollins elbows. No contact until January 8, 2008.
Jared Rollins – He is suspended until February 7, 2008, with a right eye laceration. No contact until January 23, 2008.
Richie Hightower — He is suspended until January 8, 2008. No contact until December 30, 2007.
Dorian Price — He is suspended until January 8, 2008, with an ankle sprain. No contact until December 30, 2007.
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
For this event, however, the suspensions don’t appear to be long at all — most (if not all) of the fighters should be able to return as early as February 2008. In addition, there is nothing in the notes that indicates any fighter needs medical clearance prior to competing again.
