Minatauro Nogueira Defeats Tim Sylvia by Guillotine Choke, Round 3

As usual, Nogueira took a beating throughout the fight, Tim Sylvia dominated the stand up game and showed phenomenal takedown defense until the 3rd round, when Nogueira snuck in and dropped for Sylvia’s leg. Nog swept Sylvia and took side control. When Tim Sylvia tried to stand back up, Nog locked in a guillotine choke and forced Tim Sylvia to tap.

Minotauro Nogueira is the new UFC Heavyweight Champion.

Frank Mir Defeats Brock Lesnar via Ankle Lock, Round 1

Brock Lesnar came out and took Frank Mir down, and commenced dropping jackhammers on Frank Mir’s head, and I wondered a few times if Mir would survive the attack. The referee took a point away from Lesnar for punches to the back of Frank Mir’s head. After they stood back up, Lesnar drops Mir with a punch to the grill, and Lesnar goes to the mat with and keeps dropping hammerfists on Mir’s dome. Frank Mir goes for an armbar but Lesnar breaks free. Lesnar ends up in Frank Mir’s guard and then stands back up and leaves his leg there for Frank Mir to crank. Lesnar taps out.

Brock Lesnar Says Brock Lesnar Will Win

While watching the UFC 81 Countdown show on Spike TV, I noticed how much Brock Lesnar likes to refer to himself in third person. He uses the words “Brock Lesnar” quite often, and for that reason alone, I hope he gets tapped out by Frank Mir. When Brock kept referring to himself as “Brock Lesnar” it seemed really WWE to me, I kept expecting him to bust out with “Can you smell-l-l-l-l-l, what The Rock,errrr.. I mean, Brock Lesnar is cooking?!?!”

Anyway, I’m thinking Brock will probably be able to win this fight tonight, but I’m hoping for Frank Mir to walk away with a victory.

MMAmania.com basic t-shirt now on sale

mania shirt

I’m super late with this announcement, but there was really no rush since most readers noticed the new “MMA Clothing” link in the top navigation and started purchasing our basic t-shirts.

Once again thanks to everyone who has chipped in and coughed up the relatively nominal $15.95 (shipping included) to represent our site.

It’s actually pretty cool (perhaps just for me) when random people stop and ask where I got it … especially at the gym. Makes me feel semi-important.

Therefore, if you want to feel semi-important, too, as well as support MMAmania.com we encourage you to purchase a t-shirt whenever you get the chance. Every little bit helps.

We’re in the process of expanding the MMA Clothing section and our selection of t-shirts. But it’s not going to happen overnight so hang in there.

Thanks … and enjoy the fights tonight, Maniacs.

Marvin Eastman: ‘I’m not losing no more fights’

marvineastman_ufc.jpgProps: Canadian Press

Quoteworthy:

” I just expect [Terry Martin] to come out hard and try to brawl. I don’t underestimate any opponent, I don’t look down at any opponent. I know that they’re coming in to try and whup me and I ain’t trying to have that. I’m not losing no more fights. Therefore he’s somebody in my way of my objectives to be successful in the middleweight division and ultimately get a title shot and the middleweight championship.”

Marvin Eastman sounds like a man on a mission. He also looks like one after his intense confrontation with Terry Martin at the weigh-in for their middleweight fight tonight on the undercard of the UFC 81: “Breaking Point” pay-per-view (PPV) event. It definitely has me hoping it makes the PPV broadcast between main card fights — it probably won’t last long. The article also details Eastman’s grueling schedule as a fighter and full-time corrections officer in Nevada.

UFC Fight Night 13: Frank Edgar vs. Gray Maynard

Frank Edgar vs Gray Maynard

Rising lightweight Frank Edgar (8-0) will look to continue his ascent to the top of the 155-pound division when he takes on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5 alum, Gray Maynard (4-0), at UFC Fight Night 13 on April 2 from the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colo.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com recently confirmed the rumored match up, which adds another quality bout to the already loaded SpikeTV special event.

Edgar is undefeated in his professional mixed martial arts career and in three fights inside the Octagon. “The Answer” holds impressive wins over Tyson Griffin, Mark Bocek and most recently, Spencer Fisher.

Maynard has also competed three times in the Octagon since his stint on TUF 5, defeating Joe Veres and Dennis Siver. He was also involved in the bizarre simultaneous knockout/tapout in the fight with Rob Emerson at the TUF 5 Finale that resulted in a “No Contest.”

This is certainly a step up in competition for Maynard and what could be considered a step down for Edgar. Both fighters possess strong wrestling backgrounds, but overall, Edgar is better at everything.
