“I’ve seen all of his [Alberto Crane’s] fights and he takes everyone down with stuff that he could never take me down with in a million years. So I’m insulted that he took this fight … I’m taking it kind of personally. I hope his cardio is there because I’m not going to fight him like Roger Huerta did. I will take him into deeper water than that. If he wants to go to the floor let’s rock and roll. He took this fight and now I’m going to bring it to him! I will never be as good at jiu-jitsu as Alberto, but I know I can out cardio him. Hell, I could out cardio Clay Guida [laughs]! I plan to frustrate Alberto a lot. I’m going for a submission or a knockout in round two. Either way this fight will not go to the judges. It is going to be bad because I’m not tapping! So Alberto if you get my head just finish me. If you get my arm break it so I can’t use it. I’m not going to stop fighting. I have too much at stake my wife and my new daughter. I’m bringing them into the cage with me on the 23rd. I’m coming. Take this fight seriously because I’m coming for you!”
– Kurt Pellegrino tells tells MMAmania.com that he is all set for his lightweight showdown with Alberto Crane this evening at UFC Fight Night 12, which airs for free on SpikeTV at 9 p.m. ET. It should be a Brazilian jiu-jitsu clinic — both competitors are black belts with tons of talent and technique. Not included in the snip above is that Pellegrino revealed to us that if he and Nate Diaz win tonight he’d be eager to take him on. Thanks to MMAmania.com reader Jason Bradford for tracking Kurt down and sending a transcript of their discussion to us to publish on our site exclusively.

There should be a video highlight package of the UFC Fight Night 12 weigh-in available soon, which we include in this post as soon as possible.
Reminder: The televised portion of the SpikeTV special begins Wednesday, January 23, at 9 p.m. ET. We will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, round-by-round coverage of the main card action at this time when the event begins to air from The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
UFC Fight Night 12 quick results, however, will begin to flow earlier than that here at MMAmania.com at about 7:30 p.m. ET with the prelim fights.
Feel free to hit us up before, during and after the show for some good discussion and coverage — it should be a nice night of FREE mixed martial arts (MMA) action.

Get ready for some slick Brazilian jiu-jistu.
MMAmania.com (www.mmamania.com) just learned that lightweight grapplers Kurt Pellegrino (10-3) and Alberto Crane (8-1) will go at it on January 23 at UFC Fight Night 12. It’s a showdown that pits two of the top jiu-jitsu fighters in the division against one another.
Pellegrino dropped a unanimous decision to Joe Stevenson his last time out at UFC 74: “Respect” back in August. It was a fight that would have tagged him with contender status. Unfortuantely for Kurt, “Daddy” came away with the win and now he will fight B.J. Penn for the interim lightweight championship at UFC 80: “Rapid Fire” in Newcastle, England, on January 19.
“Batman” earned his jiu-jitsu blackbelt under the highly regarded Hermes Franca at the Armory in Jupiter, Fla. He has also trained with recent UFC middleweight acquisition and renowned jiu-jitsu competitor, Ricardo Almeida.
Crane was a veteran of “King of the Cage” and “Professional No Rules Fighting” promotions prior to making his Octagon debut against Roger Huerta at UFC 74. He threw everything at Huerta during the fight, but it just wasn’t enough — “El Matador” went on to win via technical knockout in round three.
It was the first mixed martial arts fight for Crane in about two years, which means that he’s perhaps knocked off a bit of the rust. He’s a three-time Brazilian National Jiu-Jitsu Champion, Bronze World Championship medalist at the 2002 Mundials, Grapplers Quest Champion, Pan American Champion … you get the idea.
Should be a very technical fight to say the least. For the latest UFC Fight Night 12 fight card click here.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) tested 10 fighters on the UFC 74: “Respect” fight card for illegal anabolic substances such as steroids, as well as stimulants, and all of them passed, according to FightNetwork.com.
UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture, Gabriel Gonzaga, Georges St. Pierre, Josh Koscheck, Roger Huerta, Alberto Crane, Kendall Grove, Patrick Cote, Frank Mir and Antoni Hardonk were all clean for the August 25 pay-per-view (PPV) event from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The NSAC is still waiting to hear word on results for “drugs of abuse,” according to the report.
This is good news for the UFC — as well as the sport of mixed martial arts — which took a beating after UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk and his opponent at UFC 73: “Stacked,” Hermes Franca, both tested positive for steroids following their championship bout.
Franca owned up to the charge, while Sherk is still awaiting to appeal the finding before the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) sometime in October.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued the medical suspensions from UFC 74: “Respect” this weekend. And the list of injured fighters is rather significant.
Randy Couture and Joe Stevenson, however, didn’t make the list. That’s odd because “The Natural” fractured his left forearm and “Daddy” sustained a broken nose.
Regardless, here’s the skinny:
Gabriel Gonzaga — “Napao” must have his broken nose cleared by an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) physician or he can’t compete until February 22, 2008. The minimum suspension will last until October 25, 2007, and there’s no contact until October 10, 2007.
Alberto Crane — He must have his right medial orbital blowout fracture (Ouch!) cleared by an ophthalmologist or there is no contest until February 22, 2008. The minimum suspension will last until October 25, 2007, and there’s no contact until October 10, 2007.
Kendall Grove — “Da Spyda” is suspended until October 10, 2007, and there’s no contact for the Hawaiian until September 25, 2007.
David Heath — He is suspended until October 10, 2007, and there’s no contact until September 25, 2007.
Antoni Hardonk — Must have an MRI of his right shoulder or he can’t compete until February 22, 2008. The minimum suspension will last until October 10, 2007, and there’s no contact until September 25, 2007.
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
