The official weigh-in event for UFC 84: “Ill Will” at the MGM Marquee Ballroom in Las Vegas, Nevada, has concluded. And it certainly had it’s share of memorable moments.
In particular, former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz — in more than likely his last appearance for the promotion — is not going out quietly as expected. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” donned a t-shirt the read, “Dana is My Bitch,” referring to his nemesis, UFC President Dana White.
It was no coincidence that White was not present at the festivities. Regardless, Ortiz will have one last opportunity to take a dig at White when he takes on Lyoto Machida tomorrow night.
Expect something even more over the top.

Carwin seems ready for his highly anticipated Octagon debut — there’s a lot of hype around the Colorado-based heavyweight fighter. Let’s see what he’s got.

Shane Carwin (8-0) will make his Octagon debut against Christian Wellisch (8-3) at UFC 84: “Ill Will” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 24, according to multiple reports.
Carwin — a Western State College NCAA Division II national wrestling champion and two-time football All-American — is a top heavyweight prospect who has gone undefeated in smaller promotions with the guidance of veterans such as Ron Waterman and Nate Marquardt.
He’s an extremely athletic fighter who has drawn comparisons to Brock Lesnar. Carwin, however, has more mixed martial arts experience. In fact, he has finished all of his opponents in the first round with a mix of knockouts and submissions.
If he can replicate those results inside the Octagon … watch out. Carwin appears to have some serious potential to make waves in a division that sorely needs it.
Wellisch is a law school student who has won two of his three fights with the UFC. He most recently submitted Scott Junk with a heel hook at UFC 76: “Knockout” back in September 2007. He also earned a unanimous decision over Anthony Perosh at UFC 66: “Liddell vs. Ortiz II” back in December 2006.

The crop of 18 fighters for UFC 76: “Knockout” have all weighed-in this evening for the pay-per-view (PPV) event tomorrow night from The Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Jon Fitch was the only fighter in the field who failed to make weight, coming in one pound over the 170-pound limit at 172 pounds (fighters are allowed to be one pound over in non-title fights.)
He has one hour to lose the last pound. Update: Fitch lost the weight and came in at 171.
Not surprisingly, former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell got the biggest ovation.
Here are the official results:
205 lbs.: Chuck Liddell (205.5) vs. Keith Jardine (204.5)
205 lbs.: Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (205) vs. Forrest Griffin (205)
170 lbs.: Diego Sanchez (170) vs. Jon Fitch (172)
205 lbs.: Ryoto Machida (205.5) vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura (205)
155 lbs.: Tyson Griffin (155.5) vs. Thiago Tavares (154.5)
177 lbs.: Rich Clementi (169) vs. Anthony Johnson (177.5)*

Hvywt.: Christian Wellisch (230.5) vs. Scott Junk (257.5)

* This fight is at a catch-weight of 177 pounds.

UFC 76: “Knockout” at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., is set for one week from today on Saturday, September 22.
UFCmania.com will provide LIVE up-to-the-minute quick results, including the preliminary and under card fights. Our blow-by-blow coverage will begin at 10 p.m. ET with the pay-per-view (PPV) telecast.
This is one of the more solid cards in terms of match ups that has been put together for some time — even if some people aren’t too thrilled with the main event between former light heavyweight champion, Chuck Liddell, and Keith Jardine.
Don’t count me as one of them — someone is getting knocked out.
PRIDE FC stud Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will make his long-awaited Octagon debut against fan favorite, Forrest Griffin. Jon Fitch and Diego Sanchez will throwdown in a welterweight scrap, and lightweights Tyson Griffin and Thiago Tavares will clash to see who moves up the 155-pound ladder quicker.
There’s also another debut — Kazuhiro Nakamura will try and knockout the very tough, tricky and undefeated Ryoto Machida.
Put simply, this is a great line up of fights that should not disappoint. Make sure to tune-in; however, if you can’t we will have everything you need right here.
Many of our readers check-in before, during and after the PPV telecast to share their thoughts on the action. Therefore, feel free to leave a comment or 10 before you leave and chat with many of our readers during the show — it always turns out to be a good time.
Don’t forget also that we will be the spot for the latest news, recaps and post-fight analysis after UFC 76.

Scott Junk (6-1) will make his Octagon debut against Christian Wellisch (7-3) at UFC 76: “Knockout” on September 22, replacing heavyweight fighter Justin McCully.
That’s the latest from the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, which did not mention a reason for the ‘enth-hour switch.
Here’s a snip from Junk:
“It’s 100 percent going to happen. It caught me off guard, but it’s good because I have been training this whole time.”
The article goes on to reveal that the winner of this fight will likely face former UFC heavyweight champion, Frank Mir (It also mentions Brandon Vera as a possibility, but I just can’t buy that).
UFC 76 is just 11 days out, giving Junk very little time to prepare. Scrapping this bout was perhaps not an option after Wilson Gouveia recently withdrew from his scheduled light heavyweight bout against Jason Lambert that same night.
As it stands now UFC 76 will feature just eight bouts instead of the usual nine.
Junk has competed primarily in smaller shows such as Maximum Fighting Championships and Rumble on the Rock in his home state of Hawaii. He most recently stopped Jimmy Ambriz via technical knockout back in June for his sixth consecutive MMA win.

Christian Wellisch (7-3) is in talks to fight Justin McCully (8-3-2) at UFC 76: “Knockout” on September 22, according to a UFCmania.com source.
While no bout agreements have been signed at this time, we have learned that the two heavyweights will more than likely clash at The Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
“The Hungarian Nightmare” is looking to build on his unanimous decision win over Anthony Perosh at UFC 66 in December 2006. Prior to that bout, the law student suffered a setback in his Octagon debut against firece striker Chieck Kongo at UFC 62 back in August 2006.
McCully — a last-minute replacement for Frank Mir — shocked a few folks with his unanimous decision win over Antoni Hardonk at UFC Fight Night 9 in April. The Team Punishment disciple is currently overseas with U.S. troops on a tour with ringleader Tito Ortiz.
