Chuck Looking To Ramp Up MMAJacked

The Iceman Chuck Liddell has made several moves recently to branch out his empire, including the launching of IcemanRx and MMAJacked. IcemanRx, The Iceman’s supplement company, gained some brand notoriety recently, sponsoring BJ Penn at UFC 84. MMAJacked, a mixed-martial arts lifestyle brand owned by Liddell, also looks to boost it’s profile with the addition of Karen Diamond of Karen Diamond & Associates Inc. Diamond has 25 years experience in the licensing industry and will look to boost the profile of MMAJacked through various licensing opportunities.

As Chuck enters the twilight of his fighting career, he is taking the necessary steps to make a living after the last bell rings. Randy Couture is another athlete being very proactive in exploiting these business opportunities. The UFC doesn’t have a 401-K or a pension fund, so the younger fighters would be wise to follow the example of The Iceman and The Natural in providing for their own future.

More on Everlast and MMA

As a follow-up to our previous post on boxing brand Everlast and their moves into the MMA market, Everlast President Adam Geilser recently spoke with Brandweek and gave more insight into their marketing plans and why they are looking to reach MMA fans:

BW: Everlast recently signed a deal with Ultimate Fighting Championship legend Randy Couture. How does his mixed marshal arts background fit into your future plans?
AG: Everlast is the exclusive apparel and equipment sponsor of Randy’s Xtreme Couture Gyms. In September we will launch Everlast’s MMA equipment line at retail. We are doing a photo shoot with him [this week] for a print campaign that will run in men’s and sports magazines. …… Our brand is strong with consumers 30 and older. With Randy and MMA, we will attract 16-22-year olds, a demo we have had trouble attracting. So the opportunity to speak to these younger consumers is key for us. It’s a major opportunity to grow our business.

Seven Bloody Awesome MMA Blood Baths

7. Randy Couture vs. Gabriel Gonzaga

The headlining fight from UFC 74: Respect won’t be placed on anyone’s “most exciting list” since it was pretty much just Gonzaga leaning against and bleeding on Randy Couture for 2 1/2 rounds. But Gonzo’s nose geyser made for a memorably crimson octagon.

6. Pat Smith vs. Scott Morris

During UFC 2, Scott Morris dove in and attached himself to Pat Smith’s torso — in prime position to get the shit pounded out of him. We lost count at the amount of elbows Morris ate, but did notice the pieces of bloody pulp flying from his face before Big John called it. This was Morris’s first and only professional MMA event.

5. Jon Koppenhaver vs. Jared Rollins

In the TUF 6 finale’s Fight of the Night, War Machine and J-Roc beat and bled on one other, painting the canvas Jackson Pollack-style along the way. It looked like J-Rock would take it after he staggered Koppenhaver with a knee, preceded by a barrage of power elbows. But somehow an exhausted War Machine found enough in his tank to reverse it and have Steve Mazzagatti stop the fight.

Week in Review: Dollar Bills, Yo!

(YAMMA’s next “Super Fight” contestants.)

— You guys rocked it again as we gave away our last copies of Chuck Liddell’s Iceman: My Fighting Life. And don’t forget to contribute to the latest challenge we tossed at ya’.

— The EliteXC paid Kimbo serious cheddar. The other fighters not so much. But at least they attempted to ’splain their $1 payday.

— YAMMA added to their “Old Farts Throwin’ Down” debut event.

— We continued shaking our heads at the Xyience mess.

Kimbo videos got some play, including episode two of “WWKD?” and a Showtime Short.

Sick submissions. Believe it.

— UFC Fight Night 13 was upped to three hours and gained another fight.

— News came at you in nuggets, morsels, bits, and small potatoes.

— Wandy and Baroni made love, not war.

— MMA reality series continued to be churned out of the crap factory.

— We talked chicks - and CP reader Anonymous obviously has a score to settle with Kim Couture.

Enjoy the weekend. We’ll do this all again next week!
