“Iron Ring” Debuts On BET Tonight

+1 for Ghetto MMA.

One of the Iron Ring coaches, Novell G. Bell, said about the type of fighter he is looking for: ”I’m looking for cats to knock cats out.”

Sounds awesome to me.

+1 for Krazy Horse Bennett, Ocala Florida, represent.

Rapper “TI” sounds like a complete idiot, bragging about how he’s never lost a fight and his face has never been touched (sounds like someone who has never been in a real fight) and then says he is a “master of submissions.”

Iron Ring MMAWhether the show is good for the sport or not, you can bet I’ll be watching, it should be highly krunk (aka entertaining). Did I say +1 for Li’l Jon yet? YEAAAAHHH!

Shonie Carter vs. Li’l Jon for the World Championship Pimp Chalice.

TEAM HEADBUSTERS by armbar.

So far in the first episode, I think I’ve heard the words “know what i sayin?” approximately 84 times. Know what i’m sayin?

I’M SO HOOD! I Wear My Pants Below My Waist, And I Never Dance When I’m In This Place, Cause You And Your Man Is Plannin To Hate (I’M SO HOOD!), And I Got These Golds Up In My Mouth, If You Get Closer To My House, Then You Know What I’m Talking Bout, I”M OUT THE HOOD!

Damn, the first episode is over and there was no fights, just short clips, so -1 for that. I wanted to see some cats get knocked out.

Oh good, here comes episode #2, maybe someone will get KTFO this time. Man, these so-called MMA “experts” seem kinda shady, I’m not convinced this dude “Novell G. Bell” is all he thinks he is.

On the plus side, some of the rappers at ringside are making bets on who the first fighter to be hospitalized will be, so this does have the potential of being the greatest MMA show ever.

First fight starts, its obviously heavily edited, but you can hear rapper “TI” yelling at his fighter to “watch out for the triangle!” when there is no triangle attempt in sight.

Oh damn, I saw Wes Sims in line for tryouts, I think he just cost this show all its legitimacy. Tune in next week for more.

Yet Another Example of the Economic Inequalities Endemic to Combat Sports

FMBS
(Small man, big money.)

It was announced today that boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. will pocket a very-real $20 million for fake-fighting “Big Show” at WrestleMania XXIV in Orlando on March 30. Let’s put that figure into perspective: $20,000,000 is 40 times more than the UFC’s highest-paid star, Chuck Liddell, made for real-fighting Wanderlei Silva. It’s 166 times more than Anderson Silva made for his last title defense. If you laid every one of those dollars end-to-end, it would stretch from Mayweather’s ass to the back of the garage he keeps his Bentleys in.

“Wrestling takes care of business right on the spot,” Mayweather said in the AP article. “There’s no waiting three, four, five months. Quick results, quick money. Quick big money, too.” And at the press conference, this happened:

Mayweather incited the couple hundred of already hyped fans at Staples Center by whipping out a thick wad of cash and repeatedly tossing $100, $50 and $20 bills into the crowd that had nearly as many women as men.

A mad scramble ensued, with a light pole nearly getting knocked over and two small children caught in the chaos.

As Mayweather’s manager Leonard Ellerbe very astutely put it, “Either I’m going to be a genius with this or I’m the biggest idiot.” Hey, why not both?

One of the most embarrassing aspects of pro wrestling (and there are many) is that it forces men to trash-talk about a fight that isn’t even real. A WrestleMania XXIV preview on WWE.com quotes Big Show as saying “At WrestleMania, I’m going to show you that wrestling can hurt…Look at the size of my fist. It’s the size of your head. Once you get a load of this, it’s ‘BOOM!’ You’re out.” Paul? Something tells me you’re going to lose this one.

Let’s hope this doesn’t distract Floyd from his budding MMA career. Oh, you already forgot about that, didn’t you?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Talking About Fighting MMA for HDNet?

Yes, it seems Mark Cuban has talked to Floyd Mayweather Jr. about possibly fighting for HDNet under MMA rules. I really, really hope this happens, and I hope he fights a legit contender and not some washed up MMA tomato can.

Personally, I think Mayweather will never fight in mixed martial arts, I believe this is just some hype to keep people talking during his break between boxing matches. Mayweather wants to keep his name in the public.

Supposedly, Mayweather and billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban struck up a friendship on the “Dancing With The Stars” television show, on which they were both competitors. Mark Cuban owns HDNet and the HDNet Fights MMA organization.

Many people consider Floyd Mayweather to be the best boxer on earth right now. However, unless he does some serious training and focuses on takedown defense, I think he would get schooled hard by most MMA fighters.

In an interview with ESPN, Mark Cuban is quoted as saying “Floyd is considering fighting with HDNet Fights. We are going to let him visit some gyms to talk to some folks about what it would take to learn. He knows it won’t be easy. But he is getting involved with MMA and HDNet Fights one way or another. He is pumped about it. He wants to go on to the next big thing. Floyd is a brilliant marketer. He follows the money.”

Mark Cuban went on to say “If I said there’s a guaranteed $30 million payday, Floyd would be lacing them up, if not, I could see him working to train and develop and invest in MMA fighters, knowing the upside. He can teach them how to be a better boxer and add to their other skills.”

Leonard Ellerbe, an associate of Mayweathers said the boxer is seriously interested in transitioning to the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. Ellerbe is quoted as saying “When Floyd makes his move, obviously it’s going to be a mega event. We don’t have a timetable. Floyd is taking some time off, but Floyd understands what is involved. You have to take time to go out and understand what you’re getting involved in, and he’s ready to do that.”

“Floyd is about taking on challenges,” Ellerbe said. “This ain’t some kind of prank. That is one of many things we’ve talked about with Mark. Floyd would have to take time to really understand it, but it is most definitely something he is interested in.”
