In fact, UFC President Dana White announced at the post-event press conference that Silva earned a $40,000 bonus for his stoppage of Franklin. Grice and Black each earned and extra $40,000 for their scrap. And Octagon newcomer Maia pocketed an additional $40,000 for almost putting Jensen to sleep.

The total base fighter payroll for the UFC 77 was $652,000. The 16,054 fans in attendance paid a collective $2,519,850 to watch the festivities live.

UFC 77 results and coverage
UFC 77: “Hostile Territory” is set for Saturday, October 20 at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view (PPV) from the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Even though the event is little more than two weeks away, we decided to make the usual announcement a bit early because it is such a slow news day.

We’ll cover the second-ever UFC event in the Buckeye State like we do all the rest — with up-to-the-minute quick updates of the undercard action and round-by-round coverage of the televised portion of the card.

UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva defends his title in the main event against hometown favorite and former 185-pound titleholder, Rich Franklin. “Ace” is out for redemption after getting torched by the “Spider” in their first encounter at UFC 64 almost exactly one year ago.

This rematch is going to be a much better fight than the first. Franklin seems determined to get his title back.

Here are the rest of the fights we can expect:

Main card (televised)
Hvywt.: Tim Sylvia (23-3) vs. Brandon Vera (8-0)
205 lbs.: Stephan Bonnar (10-4) vs. Eric Schafer (7-2-2)
185 lbs.: Kalib Starnes (8-1-1) vs. Alan Belcher (10-3)

Undercard (may not be broadcast):
185 lbs.: Jason MacDonald (19-8) vs. Yushin Okami (20-4)
155 lbs.: Jorge Gurgel (11-2) vs. Alvin Robinson (8-2)
170 lbs.: Josh Burkman (8-4) vs. Forrest Petz (13-4)
185 lbs.: Ryan Jensen (11-2) vs. Demian Maia (5-0)
155 lbs.: Jason Black (21-3-1) vs. Matt Grice (8-1)

I have no idea the reason Okami-MacDonald would not be a guaranteed televised bout. Regardless, this line up has some real competitve fights from top to bottom — make sure to tune-in. However, if you can’t we will have everything you need right here come fight night.

Many of our readers check-in before, during and after the PPV telecast to share their thoughts on the action. In the meantime feel free to share your predictions in the comments section below.

UFC 77: Jason Black vs. Matt Grice

jason black ufc 77 matt grice
Abraham Lincoln with rabies, er, Jason Black (21-3-1) will return to the Octagon against fellow lightweight Matt Grice (8-1) at UFC 77 on October 20 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This latest news comes via a MySpace message from Grice and confirmation from MMAWeekly.com.

Black ran into a buzz saw in his Octagon debut against Thiago Tavares at UFC Fight Night (UFN) 10, succumbing to a triangle choke midway through round two. He is an experienced fighter with most of his appearances in smaller promotions, as well as a handful of bouts in PRIDE FC, prior to joining the UFC.

During the weigh-ins for UFN 10, Black was so emaciated (and was sporting some old school chops) that UFC matchmaker Joe Silva quipped that he looked like Lincoln with rabies.

Grice — a four-time Oklahoma State high school wrestling champion — also dropped his first fight inside the Octagon to Terry Etim via guillotine choke at UFC 70 back in April. “The Wolverine” was doing well early in the fight but slipped up and simply got caught.
