Videos: Lister/Horn, Sadollah Kickboxin’ + More

From the TUF 7 finale preliminary card: “Gumby” eats his third-straight submission loss, while “The Boogeyman” puts himself back in the UFC’s middleweight picture.

Amir Sadollah kicks some ass at Combat Sports Challenge 20 (4/28/07) — rocking his trademark hipster haircut even then. Props to MMATKO.

The most breathtaking video you’ll see all day is after the jump.

Words fail me.

Dean Lister vs. Jeremy Horn Ultimate Fighter 7 fight confirmed

Brazilian jiu-jitsu players and Octagon veterans, Dean Lister (10-5) and Jeremy Horn (79-17-5), will meet up in a middleweight tilt at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 Finale at The Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 21, according to UFC.com.

Lister has won three of his last four bouts, including a recent unanimous decision win over Jordan Radev at UFC 79: “Nemesis” back in December 2007. The “Boogeyman” only competed one other time last year, losing to Nate Marquardt at UFC Fight Night 8 in January.

He spent most of 2007 recovering from a surgery to repair a badly torn biceps muscle.

Horn didn’t have much luck with Marquardt either, getting beat up and nearly decapitated in a standing guillotine choke to end the fight in the second round at UFC 81: “Breaking Point” in February 2007. It was his first time back in the Octagon since tapping top WEC middleweight contender, Chael Sonnen, with an armabr at UFC 60: “Hughes vs. Gracie” in 2006.

“Gumby” actually took the fight with Marquardt on short notice because of an injury to Thales Leites. He’s lost three of his last four fights, which means that this will be an important fight for one of the sport’s most recognized pioneers.

UFC 81: Fighter paydays and salaries for ‘Breaking Point’

MMAmania.com (www.mmamania.com) has received the fighter payouts for UFC 81: “Breaking Point” from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for the pay-per-view (PPV) event held on February 2 at The Mandalay Bat Events Center in Las Vegas.

No surprise, Brock Lesnar was the top earner of the night, raking in a quarter-million dollars for his 90-second submission loss to Frank Mir. He could have pocketed another $200,000 with a win in his Octagon debut.

Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira took home a nice chuck of change ($200,000) for his stoppage of Tim Sylvia, and Nate Marquardt didn’t make out too bad, either, with his convincing win over Jeremy Horn.

Here are all the UFC 81 payouts:

Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira — $200,000 ($100,000 to show, $100,000 to win)
Tim Sylvia — $100,000
Nogueira defeated Sylvia via submission (guillotine choke) in round three

Frank Mir — $80,000 ($40,000 to show, $40,000 to win)
Brock Lesnar — $250,000

Nate Marquardt — $52,000 ($26,000 to show, $26,000 to win)
Jeremy Horn — $25,000
Marquardt defeated Horn via submission (guillotine choke) in round two

Ricardo Almeida — $40,000 ($20,000 to show, $20,000 to win)
Rob Yundt — $5,000
Almeida defeated Yundt via submission (guillotine choke) in round one

Tyson Griffin — $36,000 ($18,000 to show, $18,000 to win)
Gleison Tibau — $11,000
Griffin defeated Tibau via unanimous decision

Chris Lytle — $24,000 ($12,000 to show, $12,000 to win)
Kyle Bradley — $4,000
Lytle defeated Bradley via technical knockout (strikes) in round one

Tim Boetsch — $12,000 ($6,000 to show, $6,000 to win)
David Heath — $6,000
Boetsch defeated Heath via technical knockout (strikes) in round one

Marvin Eastman— $14,000 ($7,000 to show, $7,000 to win)
Terry Martin — $12,000
Eastman defeated Martin via unanimous decision

Rob Emerson — $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win)
Keita Nakamura — $5,000
Emerson defeated Nakamura via split decision

Keep in mind the salaries listed above do not include fight bonuses, sponsorships, percentages and other unofficial payments. It also does not include deductions for expenses such as insurance, taxes, etc.

For example, the UFC often hands out extra cash for “Fight of the Night,” “Knockout of the Night” and “Submission of the Night.” To check out these figures for UFC 81 go here.

The total base fighter payroll for UFC 81 was $892,000.

UFC 81 results coverage and LIVE fight commentary for ‘Breaking Point’

UFC 81 Results

UFC 81: “Breaking Point” is set for Saturday, February 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Super Bowl weekend special will air on pay-per-view (PPV) at 10 p.m. ET with the main card action. And of course, MMAmania.com will provide LIVE fight-by-fight, round-by-round coverage at this time.

In addition, we will post quick results of the prelim action at around 7:30 p.m. ET.

Here’s the complete line up:

Main event:

Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira (30-4- 1) vs. Tim Sylvia (24-3) for interim UFC Heavyweight Championship

Main card (televised):

Hvywt.: Frank Mir (10-3) vs. Brock Lesnar (1-0)
185 lbs.: Nate Marquardt (25-7-2) vs. Jeremy Horn (79-16-5)
185 lbs.: Alan Belcher (11-3) vs. Ricardo Almeida (8-2)

Undercard (May not be broadcast):

155 lbs.: Tyson Griffin (10-1) vs. Gleison Tibau (15-4)
170 lbs.: Chris Lytle (24-15-5) vs. Kyle Bradley (13-4)
185 lbs.: Terry Martin (16-3) vs. Marvin Eastman (14-7-1)
185 lbs.: David Heath (7-2) vs. Tim Boetsch (6-1)
155 lbs.: Keita Nakamura (14-2-2) vs. Rob Emerson (6-6)

At this point the co feature of the evening — Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesnar — has got me incredibly intrigued. There’s just no telling what is going to happen during that fight — Lesnar is raw and powerful and Mir is experienced and inconsistent.

How will this one unfold?

We can’t wait to find out, as well as check out the battle between former UFC heavyweight champion, Sylvia, and former Pride FC heavyweight champion, Minotauro Noguiera.

It’s going to get real interesting … and it’s all just one week away.

UFC 81: Jeremy Horn vs. Nate Marquardt

UFC 81 Nate Marquardt vs. Jeremy Horn

“Gumby” is back!

Veteran Jeremy Horn (79-16-5) will fill-in for the injured Thales Leites against Nate Marquardt (25-7-2) at UFC 81: “Breaking Point” on February 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to UFC.com.

Here’s the full snip:

“Returning to the Octagon for the first time since back to back wins over Trevor Prangley and Chael Sonnen in 2005-2006 , respected middleweight contender Jeremy Horn will replace injured Thales Leites and face Nate Marquardt on February 2nd’s UFC 81 card in Las Vegas.”

At just 32 years old, Horn is already legend in the sport of mixed martial arts. He has competed off and on inside the Octagon since 1998. His last appearance was in May 2006, submitting Chael Sonnen via armbar at UFC 60: “Hughes vs. Gracie.”

The last two years Horn has taken a much deserved break from competition, focusing primarily on training fighters. However, he did take three fights during that time and lost two of them (Matt Lindland and Jorge Santiago).

Marquardt is looking to rebound from his loss to UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva, at UFC 73: “Stacked” back in July 2007. He was set to face Thales Leites (again), but the Brazilian sustained a broken hand while training for the bout and was forced to withdraw.

Let’s hope the condensed pre-fight training schedule does not affect Horn and we see a great fight on SuperBowl weekend.

H.I.T. Squad: Matt Hughes leaves Miletich (MFS) to start new gym

matt hughesLong-time member of Miletich Fighting Systems (MFS), Matt Hughes, is leaving the prolific fight camp on good terms to open his own gym in Granite City, Ill., according to FightNetwork.com.

The “Hughes Intensive Training (H.I.T.) Squad” will be located less than a one-hour drive from Hughes’ Hillsboro farm — the trip to MFS in Iowa takes considerably longer.

Here’s a snip from MFS Founder, Pat Miletich:

“Matt’s been with me for almost a decade. We’ve had a lot of great years together. This is a natural progression for guys to eventually go out on their own…. I’m sure he’s had a lot of offers to do something like this and he got one close to home. I know it’s been tough on him driving up to Iowa all these years, spending the week up here and going home on weekends year after year.”

Hughes is one of two coaches on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6, which debuts on the Spike television network at 11 p.m. on September 19. He will challenge UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra for the 170-pound title at UFC 79 on December 29.

For TUF 6 Hughes enlisted the services of Robbie Lawler, Matt Pena and Rob Fiore to be his assistants. Now it appears the experience together will last longer than the six weeks of taping the reality series — the four will all be a part of the H.I.T. Squad.

According to the report, Hughes will begin to train at the new facility on the first of October and then open the “H.I.T. Squad” to the general public at the very beginning of 2008.

Veterans Jeremy Horn and Lawler, as well as Corey Hill and Jacob Hey, are the fighters who will help Hughes prepare for “The Terror.”
