UFC 89 Bonus Payouts + Videos

(Lytle vs. Taylor)

The UFC released its customary end-of-night bonuses for yesterday’s event in Birmingham. $40,000 bumps went to the following fighters:

Fight of the Night: Chris Lytle and Paul Taylor for their three-round throwdown, which was even brawlier than the main event.

Knockout of the Night: Luis Cane for his TKO-via-punches victory over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.

Submission of the Night: As Fowlkes predicted, Jim Miller gets it for tapping David Baron via Millerplata — which is just a fancy name for a rear-naked-choke.

Report: Spencer Fisher out, Jim Miller in vs. Marcus Aurelio at UFN 13

Spencer Fisher suffered a shoulder injury training for his upcoming bout with Marcus Aurelio at UFC Fight Night 13, forcing the Miletich-trained fighter to withdraw from the lightweight contest, according to Sherdog.com.

Here’s a snip from his manager, Monte Cox:

“Spencer is the kind of fighter who has fought plenty of fights with injuries and Marcus Aurelio is not the kind of fighter you want to fight at 80 percent. He was willing to fight but we decided it just was not a smart decision.”

Jim Miller (10-1) is expected to step up as the last-minute replacement during the three-hour SpikeTV special slated to go off LIVE from the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colo., at 7 p.m. ET on April 2.

It will mark the first fight inside the Octagon for Miller who has plied his trade primarily in smaller shows throughout New Jersey. In fact, his only loss was a unanimous decision to top 155-pound contender, Frank Edgar.

Eighty percent of Miller’s wins have come by way of submission, which may not help him much against a ground specialist such as Aurelio.

We’ll see in about two weeks.
