The UFC’s next “Fight Night” card on SpikeTV will reportedly go down September 17th at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska, and matchups are beginning to be sorted out. TUF 5 winner and Stockton-repper Nate Diaz has agreed to fight Josh “The Dentist” Neer in a lightweight bout on the main card; Diaz has gone 4-0 in the UFC since his reality show stint, including a legendary no-hands triangle choke victory over Kurt Pellegrino at UFN 13, while Neer (24-6-1, 3-3 UFC) last defeated Din Thomas by decision at the same event, and holds notable wins over Joe Stevenson and Melvin Guillard.

Omaha’s own Houston Alexander is also expected to appear, taking on Eric Schafer. The fight marks Schafer’s return to the Octagon after picking up a couple of wins in the Gladiators Fighting Series organization; he’d previously dropped two in a row to Michael Bisping and Stephan Bonnar. A middleweight fight between Ed Herman and Alan Belcher has been rumored as well.

In other UFC news…

— Dana White has denied that his mind-blowing announcement is related to New York MMA regulation. Epic Fail averted, for now.

— BloodyElbow is floating a rumor that Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami could fight in October, at the UFC’s next U.K. show. We’d rather see the Spider in a light-heavyweight super-fight, but sure, why not, clean out the division once and for all.

— French welterweight David Baron has reportedly signed with the UFC. Baron is the former 168-pound champion of Shooto Europe who most recently pulled off a huge upset at Shooto Tradition 1 by submitting Hayato Sakurai in the first round.

UFC Fight Night 13: Din Thomas vs. Josh Neer

Din Thomas Josh Neer UFC Fight Night 13
Din Thomas (20-7) will most likely return from a knee injury to face Josh Neer (23-6-1) at UFC Fight Night 13 at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colorado, on April 2, according to MMAWeekly.com.

No bout agreements have been signed at this time bit appears as if the match up will be booked soon.

“Dinyero” tweaked his knee in the first round during a fight with Kenny Florian at UFC Fight Night 11 in September 2007. He continued to try and fight but eventually succumbed to a rear naked choke.

While recovering, Thomas was arrested for staging illegal “smoker” fights at his American Top Team (ATT) gym in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The trumped-up charges were dropped soon thereafter.

Neer has not competed inside the Octagon since a submission loss (kimura) to Nick Diaz at UFC 62: “Liddell vs. Sobral” in August 2006. He has since gone on to win six of his last seven fights in several other smaller organizations outside the UFC.

“The Dentist” holds notable wins over Joe Stevenson and Melvin Guillard and will look to follow in their footsteps with a drop to lightweight.

This is another solid match up added to an absolutely ridiculous UFC Fight Night 13 card. Lightweights Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon will throwdown in the main event of the evening, and a star-studded line up of fighters will fill-out the rest of the card.

Stephens, fighting outside of his UFC contract, defeated Nick Walker on Saturday night at Midwest Cage Championships 9 in Urbandale, Iowa.

A day earlier in Iowa, former UFC fighter Josh Neer made his debut at 155 lbs. and was victorious against former UFC and Pride fighter Paul Rodriguez in Des Moines at GreenSparks Fighting Championship 5.

Neer won via TKO at 1:38 in the first round while Stephens also recorded a TKO at 4:45 of round one.

Ultimate Fight Night 15 Weigh-In Report

Nathan Diaz Josh Neer UFC Fight Night

Ah, beautiful Omaha, Nebraska. Where any mention of the Cornhuskers is enough to work a crowd into a frenzy. I just returned from the Ultimate Fight Night 15 weigh-in, which was fairly uneventful except for the odd fact that every single fighter weighed in precisely on the mark. Every middleweight hit 185 on the button. Every lightweight, 155 exactly. You get the picture. It was eerie. Makes you wonder if the athletic commission here isn’t just phoning it in. One guy who seemed a bit nervous about the whole thing was Clay Guida, who stepped on the scale as if he were trying to sneak up on it. Maybe his brother’s troubles have him worried.

But the most interesting thing to happen at the weigh-in had nothing to do with the fighters on Wednesday night’s card. Before things got underway, Matt Hughes answered questions from the fans who arrived early. He talked at length about how good Robbie Lawler is, how he wouldn’t advise Lawler to fight Anderson Silva, but would like to see him face Georges St. Pierre, whose stand-up game is not as good as Lawler’s, according to Hughes.

“I know I want to see that fight,” he said. “I wouldn’t even want to corner Robbie. I’d just want to sit on the side and watch.”

But then, when the Q&A session was over, Hughes asked for a couple extra minutes on the mic. He said that he often gets asked about his most memorable story in the fight game, and then proceeded to share, unprompted, a tale from his “pre-Christian” days.

It seems Hughes was down in New Orleans and on Bourbon Street with Pat Miletich and some of the boys after a fight. He and Miletich got into a drinking contest, chugging beers out on the street with both fists. They had just finished slamming a couple and were walking down the street when Miletich stopped and bent over to puke in the street. Then he walked a couple steps, puked some more, then kept going, stopped, and puked some more. At some point, Miletich looked over at Hughes and pointed to the gaping space where his false teeth should be. Pat Miletich, MMA great, had just realized that he puked out his false teeth.

So what did he do? He walked back and sifted through each pile of vomit until he found them. And when he found them? He poured beer on them, put them back in his mouth, and kept going.

If you still care about the official weigh-in results after that, they’re after the jump:

Dan Miller (185) vs. Rob Kimmons (185)
Mike Massenzio*(185) vs. Drew McFedries (185)
Jason Brilz (205) vs. Brad Morris (205)
Kyle Bradley (155) vs. Joe Lauzon (155)
Ryan Jensen (185) vs. Wilson Gouveia (185)
Joe Vedepo (185) vs. Alessio Sakara (185)
Eric Schafer (205) vs. Houston Alexander (205)
Alan Belcher (185) vs. Ed Herman (185)
Clay Guida (155) vs. Mac Danzig (155)
Josh Neer (155) vs. Nathan Diaz (155)

* When Massenzio was introduced, Joe Rogan appeared so bewildered by his last name that it became immediately clear that he had no idea who this person was. Should be interesting to see if he figures it out in time for tomorrow night’s broadcast on Spike TV.

Diaz Tops Ultimate Fight Night Payouts

(Why you so mad, Nate? By Stockton standards, you rich!)

Official salaries for last week’s Ultimate Fight Night 15 were released today by the Nebraska State Athletic Commission, and not surprisingly it was Nate Diaz who made off with the most cheddar (that’s what the kids call money these days, right?). Here’s the full breakdown. Each winning fighter’s salary represents a doubling of his base pay:

Nate Diaz: $40,000
Josh Neer: $9,000
Clay Guida: $26,000
Mac Danzig: $15,000
Alan Belcher: $26,000
Ed Herman: $16,000
Eric Schafer: $12,000
Houston Alexander: $13,000
Alessio Sakara: $34,000
Joe Vedepo: $3,000
Wilson Gouveia: $36,000
Ryan Jensen: $4,000
Joe Lauzon: $20,000
Kyle Bradley: $4,000
Jason Brilz: $6,000
Brad Morris: $4,000
Mike Massenzio: $6,000
Drew McFedries: $16,000
Dan Miller: $10,000
Rob Kimmons: $5,000

Some quick thoughts…

Bonuses: as previously reported, Diaz and Neer also pocketed an extra $30,000 each for “Fight of the Night,” as did Alessio Sakara for “KO of the Night” and Wilson Gouveia for “Submission of the Night.”

Overpaid: Houston Alexander. Not that thirteen grand is all that much money, but it’s too much for someone who hasn’t bothered to learn the ground game. There are guys fighting for $500 all over America who at least know one or two basic escapes from the mount. Those guys also probably know the difference between legal and illegal knee strikes.

Underpaid: Joe Vedepo. Yes, he was a UFC newcomer and yes, he lost. But dude went to Omaha and got kicked in his head all for three grand? There has got to be an easier way to make a buck.
