(Luis Cane’s pimp-slap, straight left combo. No one ever expects it. Props, UG.)
- Apparently the hip new trend for youngsters on the internet is to film themselves making UFC predictions and then throw it up on YouTube. Fightlinker spotted the very enthusiastic WishKid12 doing her thing, and decided to see how her picks matched up against those made by professionals like us. We’re proud to report that both Bens (weirdly, we made the exact same picks) soundly defeated this precocious prognosticator. While she went 2-3 on the night, we went 4-1 (curse you Cane, and your bitch-slapping awesomeness). The only one in this impromptu contest to beat us was Fightlinker, with a perfect 5-0. So basically we’re smarter than a twelve-year-old girl but dumber than drunk Canadians. That’s still better than either of our families ever expected.
- Patrick Cote tells MMA Mania that the UFC did not have him sign a contract extension prior to his title fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 90 this Saturday night. That’s notable since he’s at or near the end of his current contract, and typically the UFC makes sure they have a guy locked up before they take a chance on him becoming a belt-holder. At least, that’s what they do when they think the challenger has a chance in hell of winning.
- In case you were wondering, Dana White says he will reward Josh Koscheck with a shot at the welterweight title if he beats Thiago Alves this weekend. We all know how much White loves guys who are willing to step in on short notice, and Koscheck has a chance to turn Diego Sanchez’s misfortune into a big break for himself. Not that anyone’s really clamoring for GSP-Koscheck II at this point.
- MMA Payout takes issue with the UFC’s insinuation that Brandon Vera voluntarily sat out a year and then returned a different fighter. They point out that Vera was an early victim of the “Zuffa Freeze Out” and that by running around comparing the old Vera to the new one, Dana White may be unwittingly calling the wrong kind of attention to his own negotiation practices. Damn revisionist history.

Hi Ben,
It may be funny when other people vomit, NOT. Don’t you pull any stunts like even suggesting you would take Ipecac. I hope you know that stuff has side effects.
YOUR MOTHER.
Mommmm, you’re embarrassing me!

Hell yeah, this finale is shaping up to be one of the best free television cards in the history of Spike. I love it. Let me get to the picks!
#4 BJ Penn (10-4-1) (5-3-1) vs. #5 Jens Pulver (21-7-1) (6-1-1)
As much as I want to take Pulver, I think Penn's going to win this by TKO in two. I know Pulver has some mad sprawling skills, but I believe BJ is just too much for him. Then again, Penn is SUPPOSED to win every fight he's in, it just depends on how much he trained and how much effort he puts into the fight.
Manny Gamburyan (5-1) (0-0) vs.
Nate Diaz (5-2) (0-0)I like Manny, he seems like a really nice guy who works his ass off. I don't like Nate, he seems like a really idiotic guy who works his ass of. But I can't see this going any other way than a submission victory with Nate Diaz and one thousand Diaz brothers references from Mike Goldberg.
#8 Roger Huerta (17-1-1) (3-0) vs. Doug Evans (5-0) (0-0)
Rrrriiiigghhhht. Huerta by TKO/KO in one.
Thales Lietes (10-1) (1-1) vs. Floyd Sword (9-2) (0-0)
I don't know who sword is and I don't care. Unfortunately, I know who Lietes is and I STILL don't care. But, based on past performance this match goes to Lietes by submission in 3.
Joe Lauzon (14-3) (1-0) vs. Brandon Melendez (7-5) (0-0)
Excellent fight that I believe Lauzon will finish by TKO in 2. Melendez is a bit of a cry baby who's over confident in his skills. Match that with Lauzon's KO power and we have THE FIGHT OF THE NIGHT!
Gray Maynard (2-0) (0-0) vs. Robert Emerson (6-6) (0-0)
Emerson is this season's Ross Pointon. OK, he's not THAT bad, but he's certainly a journeyman who has a lot of balls without the skills to match. Even with Maynard being a rookie, I give it to him via unanimous decision.
Leonard Garcia (9-2) (0-1) vs. Allen Berube (0-0) (0-0)
The "Monstah" has yet to have an official debut according to Sherdog (UFC claims he's 2-1), so I can't imagine he'll have much success against the marginally talented Leonard Garcia. Garcia has this guy beat in just about every category, so I see a first round submission.
Cole Miller (11-2) (0-0) vs. Andy Wang (5-6) (0-0)
Andy Wang is schmuck and he deserves to be fed tp the wolves as Cole Miller's first UFC victory. Miller's got skills and I believe he'll TKO Wang in the first.
Matt Wiman (6-3) (0-1) vs. Brian Geraghty (17-9-1) (0-0)
Geraghty has been around the block a time or two, but he's going to have to find his first UFC win another day. Wiman has got the right stuff when he keeps his head in the game and he'll dispose of Geraghty in the form of a unanimous decision.
---This is a REALLY exciting card that caps off a spectacular season. I have no idea what the odds are on each fight, so I didn't intend to pick favorites, I just went with my gut.
