Great show, and going into the night, I was conflicted about who I wanted to win for some fights. I’m a Lyoto Machida fan, and while I’ve never really been a Tito Ortiz fan, part of me was hoping to see him win just for the controversy it could’ve caused with Dana White. However, I [...]

The official weigh-in event for UFC 84: “Ill Will” at the MGM Marquee Ballroom in Las Vegas, Nevada, has concluded. And it certainly had it’s share of memorable moments.
In particular, former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz — in more than likely his last appearance for the promotion — is not going out quietly as expected. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” donned a t-shirt the read, “Dana is My Bitch,” referring to his nemesis, UFC President Dana White.
It was no coincidence that White was not present at the festivities. Regardless, Ortiz will have one last opportunity to take a dig at White when he takes on Lyoto Machida tomorrow night.
Expect something even more over the top.

Rich “No Love” Clementi played spoiler for many Canadian fans at UFC 83: “St. Pierre vs. Serra 2” with his tough split decision victory over Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout. The shower of boos from some 21 000 fans didn’t phase Clementi, in fact it did the opposite.
Here’s a snip:
“Being booed pumped me up a little bit … whether it’s cheers or boos it’s the energy that matters, I used that a little to my favor.”
The Canadian fans lived up to their stereotype of being overtly polite, however, only after the fight was over:
“The crowd in Montreal and the fans are just awesome … even afterwards I had fans come up to me and say ‘I felt bad booing you’ and they apologized and asked for my autograph.”
Shortly after his win, Clementi received a call to fill in for an injured Rob Emerson who was slated to face Terry Etim at UFC 84: “Ill Will” on May 24. Without a thought Clementi jumped at the opportunity. After a tough three-round war with Stout, Clementi is going to have a brief break.
In fact, he said he would, “… take a few days to relax my mind and to get refocused and then I’m right back at it.”
And his thoughts on the 10-1 British fighter, Terry Etim:
“He’s another young kid, and the thing about him is he’s not really great in one area and I seem to do well against guys like that.”
I know I should be staying away from the Starnes debacle, but it is always interesting to hear what fellow fighters, and especially ones who were on the card, thought of the whole situation.
Clementi’s reaction:
“You never really know what is going through a guys mind when he’s fighting, but at the same token, when you’re paid to perform – and that’s what we are, performers – go get knocked out…step in there, stick your jaw out, try to throw a punch ….”
Clementi is a dangerous fighter who is solid in all aspects of the game. It is hard not to be in his corner for every one of his fights. His dedication to the sport and his short turnaround between his fights speaks to his character.
Of course, I was booing him in favor of the hometown Stout, but I was one of the overtly polite Canadians patting him on the back after his win.
Fighting in the deepest, arguably the toughest division in all of MMA — let alone the UFC — lends itself to a complicated mix of up-and-comers, journeymen and contenders.
Where does Clementi see himself in the mix?
Here’s a final snip:
“Do I think I’m ready for that, a title shot or whatever? – No. Do I feel like I’m slowly climbing that ladder and kicking people off it as I’m trying to come up? – Damn right I am.”

(Decisions, decisions…)
Though the UFC has confirmed none of this yet, some strong UFC 85-related rumors are circulating that we wanted to pass along. The word is…
— James Irvin will indeed fight Rashad Evans, replacing an injured Chuck Liddell.
— The main event will feature Michael Bisping taking on Chris Leben. (Thanks for listening, guys!)
— UFC 85 will possibly be broadcast on SpikeTV. That would be enough to appease American fans — with four solid matchups on the main card (including Vera/Werdum and Davis/Swick), it’ll be at least as entertaining as an “Ultimate Fight Night” — but a show without a true big-name headliner could potentially slow the UFC’s momentum in the U.K.
We’ll let you know when any of that is formally announced.
Somewhat related: You think seven weeks is a short layover for Michael Bisping? Well, Rich Clementi is only getting five before his next fight. “No Love,” who just scored a hard-fought split-decision victory over Sam Stout on the undercard of UFC 83, has been booked to replace an injured Rob Emerson in a lightweight match against Terry Etim at UFC 84 (May 24th, Las Vegas). Clementi has won his last three UFC bouts, including submission victories over Melvin Guillard and Anthony Johnson, while Etim took his first career loss via unanimous decision against Gleison Tibau at UFC 75.

Georges St. Pierre got his revenge on Matt Serra’s upset victory last year by defeating him in the rematch by TKO in round 2 at UFC 83 tonight. GSP controlled the entire fight, opting to use his quick takedowns and wrestling to keep the fight on the ground and pound Matt Serra out. The final [...]

Wow … talk about a reception for UFC Welterweight Champion, Matt Serra, during the official weigh-in for UFC 83: “Serra vs. St. Pierre 2” this afternoon.
It was a downright hostile crowd at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, which is not surprising considering Serra’s opponent — and hometown star — Georges St. Pierre, as well as his “disparaging” remarks heading into this event.
I just can’t fathom what it’s going to be like tomorrow night when the fight actually takes place.
“If you’re pissed right now, wait until Saturday night,” Serra shouted over the crowd. Something tells me the Mounties should crack out the riot gear just in case that prediction is accurate.
Meanwhile, Michael Bisping and Charles McCarthy head a head-bumping, obscenity-swapping staredown. And there’s clearly no love lost between Jason MacDonald and Joe Doerksen.
Amazing stuff.
At any rate, here are the complete UFC 83 weigh-in results:
170 lbs.: Matt Serra (169.5) vs. Georges St. Pierre (169.5)
185 lbs.: Rich Franklin (185.5) vs. Travis Lutter (185)
185 lbs.: Michael Bisping (185.5) vs. Charles McCarthy (186)
155 lbs.: Mac Danzig (154.5) vs. Mark Bocek (154.5)
185 lbs.: Kalib Starnes (186) vs. Nate Quarry (185.5) — swing bout
185 lbs.: Jason MacDonald (185) vs. Joe Doerksen (184.5)
185 lbs.: Alan Belcher (185) vs. Jason Day (183.5)
185 lbs.: Ed Herman (185.5) vs. Demian Maia (184.5)
155 lbs.: Sam Stout (155.5) vs. Rich Clementi (155)
265 lbs.: Cain Velasquez (235.5) vs. Brad Morris (225.5)
170 lbs.: Jonathan Goulet (169.5) vs. Kuniyoshi Hironaka (170)

The televised portion of the pay-per-view (PPV) event begins tomorrow (Saturday, April 19) at 10 p.m. ET. We will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, round-by-round coverage of the main card action at this time.
UFC 83 quick results, however, will begin to flow earlier than that here at MMAmania.com at about 8:00 p.m. ET with the prelim fights.
Tomorrow is going to be insane — it’s going to be absolute pandemonium inside the Bell Centre. Remember to hit us up for all the latest results coverage before, during and after the action.

“… everybody with their own eyes saw he [Rich Clementi] wasn’t ready to stand up with me [at UFC 79]. He knew my weakness was my submission game as far as fighting him because he’s a seasoned jiu-jitsu guy — I’ll give him that. As far as me putting my hands on him, I got my respect out of him. So, I’m not even tripping, you know?… He really didn’t [win the fight]. He didn’t take my heart. I took his heart before he got in the ring. He was scared to fight me before he got in the ring. And, it’s like I tell everybody – and I’m going to keep saying it – when I see him again, I’m going to fight him again. When I get ready to go home for Mardi Gras, he just knows not to be seen. I went home for New Years and the places he wants to go, he wasn’t even there. He knew I was going to be there looking for him. He never showed up anywhere. As long as he keeps hiding from me, running from me, I’m winning the war every day. Eventually, we’ll get another rematch in the UFC …”
– Melvin Guillard talks about Rich Clementi via the Baltimore Sun after he lost via first round submission at UFC 79: “Nemesis” on December 29, 2007. The two Louisiana natives didn’t like each other very much before the fight and not much has changed since. Definitely read this entire interview if you have the chance … Melvin certainly does not charge per word. He also reveals that he plans to take a few fights outside the Octagon to get back on track in 2008.
